Community Education & Advocacy

As an anti-hunger organization, we have a moral obligation to engage in local advocacy.

We gain visibility through speaking events, participating in local committees, engaging in community events, and paying attention to legislative initiatives. Having access to a platform at events allows us the opportunity to educate our community about Skagit Gleaners’ mission and vision, and provides a space for us to share the major implications in our local & national food system.

Why is it important?

Community Outreach

Throughout the year we are invited to speak at events all over the county, giving us the space to expand our educational reach. We often partner with other local organizations as well to support them in their events or invite them to come to our building to speak with our members about their programs.

Local Committees & Councils

We do our best to be involved in or speak to a well-rounded assortment of local councils, committees & groups like the ones listed below in order to keep our mission relevant and top of mind in our community.

  • Community Resource Coalition

  • Northsound ACH

  • Skagit Community Action Latino Advisory Committee

  • Various Rotary, Lions Club, Kiwanis, and Soroptimist clubs
